there are two stumps. one on either side of the totems. you havwe to minize the number of turns you take in the maze.
if you want more like this, try the magic encylopedia games. ivwe finished the first one havent load the second one yet.

You did the same thing I did...I went around for hours trying to do that totem thing. I kept forgetting that there are two you can add things too..plus the ones that are already stacked. So you can move them around, with all 4 totem stumps..hope that helps.
